OVER 40 YEARS OF HISTORY…

1977 – 1979
AUTOMOBILES MILLER

On the brink of his 17 years of age and starting from scratch, Michel Miller already is a natural-born entrepreneur. As a tenant, he wishes more than anything to finally own the premises he uses. Michel works relentlessly and persistently 7 days a week to convince the executives of an oil company and finally own his first automotive mechanics business in Blainville in 1977. Only 2 years after, in 1979, he purchased a land in Saint-Eustache in the hope of redirecting his business activities to sell second-hand automotive parts.

1994
PIGNON SUR RUE

In 1994, Automobiles Miller establishes at 805 Arthur-Sauvé Boulevard in Saint-Eustache, which announces a project with tremendous proportions in only a few years.

1999
SERVICE DE RECYCLAGE
STERLING

With the strong conviction that he can make a difference with the smallest things, Michel Miller, with his 14 containers, plunges into an adventure that is still fully ongoing. At the very beginning, only 2 to 3 containers were delivered weekly nearby.

2000
NEW LAND IN MIRABEL

Michel Miller seizes a fleeting chance to bring his company to a new level and buys a large land located at 6000 Sir-Wilfrid-Laurier Road in Saint-Canut (Mirabel) to carry on his operations. Unfortunately, the project has to be postponed pending a decision from the Commission de protection du territoire agricole du Québec (CPTAQ) to utilize the land outside of agricultural uses.

2001
EXPANSION IN LAVAL

Faithful to the intuitive entrepreneur he is known to be, Michel Miller seizes every opportunity to support the growth of his company. With this idea, he bought Services de rebuts Gagné and Kino Transport, 2 companies that had been working in the industry for many years and helped Service de recyclage Sterling gain an enviable reputation. Michel also purchased a new land in Laval, at 5570 place Maurice-Cullen.

2003
MAJOR INVESTMENT

Getting the new land in Laval shows Michel Miller’s strong ambitious side. As a pioneer in the industry, he wants to set up an efficient, high-performing and very beneficial sorting center. To enable Service de recyclage Sterling to reach a higher level, Michel invests significantly in optimal facilities. He buys Montcalm containers to increase his business volume.

2009
FINALIZATION OF
MIRABEL SITE

The city of Mirabel strongly believes in Michel Miller’s vision to make the Mirabel site the city’s main eco-center. With the help of the Commission de protection du territoire agricole du Québec (CPTAQ), the Mirabel site can finally be developed. After almost 9 years, another sorting center is finalized and opens in 2010.

2011
TRAGEDY IN
SAINT-EUSTACHE

A huge fire burns down the second-hand automotive part building on the Arthur-Sauvé Boulevard in Saint-Eustache, which is at the time managed by a third party. Given the serious damage, the site becomes a memory and needs to be completely rebuilt, but Michel and his team remain dedicated and confident for the next step.

2013
SRS TRANSFER CENTER

With 2 major sorting center sites, Michel Miller understands the contractors now need a transfer center to dispose of dry materials to be valorized. This transfer center is an intermediate site for our customers to reduce the costs related to transportation. He decides to convert the Saint-Eustache land that was engulfed in flames the year before in this transfer center: a huge change for a site that was dedicated to selling automotive parts since the 1950s!

2014
FOURTH LOCATION

In order to serve a larger territory and more municipalities, a fourth service point becomes necessary. Thanks to the area’s hearsay, Michel Miller can buy the Lahaie Street location in Saint-Antoine in 2013, where he builds and opens a transfer center in 2014.

2015
INFLUENCE OF A
NEW GENERATION

Michel Miller brilliantly led Service de recyclage Sterling until July 2015. When he passed away, his son, who learnt from his father for over 20 years, took over the business. With his faithful, dynamic and dedicated team, Joé carries the torch with great pride. The family company continues to gain an undeniable reputation in the construction, renovation and demolition material valorization industry.

A VISIONARY COMPANY

Since its very beginning, Service de recyclage Sterling dreams big. The founder had a passion, a vision and a strong will to go one step beyond and to reach the unreachable. He chose to surround himself with a smart team that has the motivation to exceed the expectations and offer a service fitted to their customer’s reality.

At a time where environment is at the forefront of the society’s concerns, Service de recyclage Sterling is considered a pioneer in recycling and valorizing materials with its ecological business model. Preventing the burial of wastes by giving a new life to dry materials is and has always been a part of the company’s forward-looking approach.

VALUES ROOTED
IN OUR HISTORY

Our ecological awareness has always been our source of motivation. We built optimal facilities to continually improve our procedures and minimize the waste sent to landfill sites.

Thanks to this determination that has been following us ever since day 1, we were able to do the unthinkable: we send 60 times less waste to landfill sites than when we first started.

MATERIAL
VALORIZATION

Preserving the environment is the foundation of our business. Every action we take is to give a new life to materials that would otherwise be sent to landfill sites. With our quick and adequate techniques, we can valorize about 70% of the construction, renovation and demolition wastes disposed of in our service points.

Wood chips:

  • Melamine sheets for furniture manufacturing
  • Acoustic panels
  • Litter for farming animals, such as horse boxes

Wood pellets:

  • Cogeneration biomass

Gypsum board powder:

  • Horticultural and agricultural fertilizing and enrichment

A FRUITFUL AND WELL-ESTABLISHED COLLABORATION WITH THE MUNICIPALITIES

Ever since we started working shoulder to shoulder with several municipalities, we developed close collaborations with each and every one of them. We received a certificate of authority for our 2 sorting centers in Laval and Mirabel to process up to 200,000 tons of materials every year per site, which enables us to assist these municipalities’ citizens, individuals and contractors best we can.

Providing our customers with a beneficial experience is what makes us tick.
